Previously known as the richest man in the world, Bill Gates built this luxury mansion overlooking Lake Washington, in Medina, Washington in a project that took seven years. The estate covers 66,000 square feet and has seven bedrooms, six kitchens, a steam room and sauna, a trampoline room with a 20-foot ceiling, a library, a spacious gym, and an artificial stream with real salmon and trout! Planted on the estate are 500 Douglas fir trees and a staff of 50 gardeners. Bill and Melinda Gates called their waterfront villa “Xanadu 2.0” as the house is like the home (called Xanadu) of Charles Kane in the movie “Citizen Kane”. As befits a tech guru owner, in his home a high-tech sensor system allows visitors to monitor a room’s climate and lighting. Visitors are given a pin once they arrive and with which they can interact with the sensors in the house. Visitors need to set their lighting and temperature preferences, which enables to house to change as visitors move around it.
